Have you ever heard about FED chairman? If not, this article is for you. Today we will talk about who is the current chairman of the Fed and how long is the Fed Chairman term. Let’s find out by reading the article below.

Who is the current chairman of the Fed?

Jerome H. Powell first took office as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve on February 5, 2018, for a four-year term. On May 23, 2022, he was reappointed to the office and sworn in for a second four-year term.

How long is the Fed chairman term?

The term of the Fed chair is four years. They are nominated by the President of the United States and then confirmed by the Senate; however, unlike the presidency, Fed chairs can serve more than two consecutive terms (William McChesney Martin served from 1951 to 1970).

Does the president have power over the Fed chair?

The president has some power over the chair, but not directly. The president nominates the chair and is allowed to have a say in the direction of the Fed, but the president cannot direct the Fed to raise or lower interest rates. Fed board members serve 14-year terms, which obviously has some presidential overlap and preserves the independence of the board.

I hope this article will help you to learn who is the current chairman of the Fed and how long is the Fed Chairman term. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is responsible for carrying out the Fed's directives. This can include meeting and testifying before Congress, monitoring and managing interest rates, and promoting maximum employment.
