In this article, you will learn why was the Ukraine airdrop canceled. The Ukrainian government's official Twitter account was publishing information relating to the country's crypto donation. When the Ukrainian government first announced it was accepting cryptocurrency donations, it shared a Bitcoin and Ethereum wallet address for interested donors.

What is the Airdrop of Donations in Ukraine?

Ukraine has scrapped a plan to reward people who donated to its fight against a Russian invasion with newly created crypto assets, following complications with the project.

Ukraine will conduct an airdrop to donors who have contributed money to its official crypto addresses, the country said on Wednesday through its official Twitter account. Airdrops involve crypto projects sending free tokens en masse to their communities in a bid to op enco.

Ukraine started accepting cryptocurrencies as means of donation on Feb. 26 as Russian troops entered Ukrainian territory in a “special military operation.” The country is accepting donations in bitcoin, ether, USDT and Polkadot's DOT tokens.

The country has received $33 million in crypto donations so far, as reported.

Why was the Ukraine Airdrop Canceled?

The official verified Twitter account for Ukraine said on Wednesday it planned to issue a so-called “airdrop”, a common tool for early-stage crypto platforms to attract users by offering free tokens to jump start a project. But a day later, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Federov said in a tweet that the nation had decided to cancel the project. The tweet wasn't independently verified by Bloomberg News.

Mykhailo Fedorov, the vice prime minister of Ukraine, announced on Thursday that Ukraine was canceling its plans for an airdrop, a project that would have provided its crypto donors free tokens as an incentive for more donations.

The airdrop had prompted an influx of microdonations, with 95% of donors contributing 0.001 ether or 0.01 ether with the expectation of getting a free token back. Some called the cancellation a rug pull, implying that Ukraine had somehow tricked donors with the promise of a token.

The cancellation followed an apparent attempt to spoof the promised token. An unknown entity minted a Peaceful World token with the symbol WORLD, which some users mistook as the intended Ukrainian airdrop. one point. The WORLD tokens have since been marked by Etherscan as coming from a problem address, indicating possible fraud.

Ukraine would have been the first nation to conduct an airdrop for crypto donors. El Salvador made a similar move last year when it airdropped $30 worth of bitcoin to every adult citizen who downloaded its government bitcoin wallet.

He added that Ukraine will announce a drop of nonfungible tokens to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces soon, but that it has no plans to issue any fungible tokens such as cryptocurrencies.

Bottom Line

Per blockchain records, those two addresses have now received $10 million and $16 million worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum, respectively. This article is about why was the Ukraine airdrop canceled.
