ConsenSys, a prominent blockchain software company, has announced the onboarding of partners for its Linea network, a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum. Linea utilizes zero-knowledge proofs and is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), enabling seamless interact with the Ethereum blockchain. Afteran extensive testnet phase involving 5.5 million unique wallets and over 46 million transactions, Linea achieved significant improvements in performance, transaction costs, and user experience. The alpha version was launched on July 11 with m more than 100 partners participating, boasting faster Throughput and 15 times lower transaction fees compared to the Ethereum mainnet.
One notable integration of Linea is with MetaMask, ConsenSys' Ethereum browser wallet. This integration allows Linea users to access features such as token bridging, swapping, and purchasing through MetaMask. According to Joseph Lubin, the founder and CEO of ConsenSys, the proli fermentation of Ethereum layer 2 scaling protocols and solutions is a driving force behind the development of Web3 applications and features. The incorporation of Proof-of-Stake and a rollup-centric roadmap in Ethereum layer 2 will greatly enhance scalability and usability.
Linea aims to attract decentralized finance (DeFi) applications seeking fast finality, capital-efficient bridges, and the security provided by the Ethereum mainnet. The network offers low gas fees, high throughput, and low latency, making it suitable for powering non-fungible tokens (NFTs), blockchain games, and social applications. To support ecosystem builders, ConsenSys has launched the Linea Ecosystem Investment Alliance (EIA), which involves over 30 venture capital firms providing funding and advisory assistance.
During the initial phase of Linea's Alpha mainnet launch, safeguards will be implemented to protect users, decentralized applications (DApps), and the network itself. Initially, only launch partners will be permitted to perform calls to the network. ConsenSys plans to open the network more widely during the ETHCC event in France starting on July 17, although there may be some restrictions on withdrawals for the first 90 days. The company will also conduct bug bounties and closely monitor system performance before fully opening Linea to end users.
The introduction of Linea adds to the ongoing discussions surrounding Ethereum Layer 2 solutions in 2023. Polygon, a layer 2 development company, made its zkEVM network public in March. Eli Ben-Sasson, the founder of Starknet and a pioneer in zk-proofs, has focused on increasing the throughput of his network throughout the year. The continuous development and implementation of layer 2 solutions demonstrate the commitment to scaling and improving the Ethereum ecosystem.
