Polygon Labs and Warner Music Group (WMG) have announced the recipients of two grants for their inaugural Web3 Music Accelerator program. Launched in June 2023, the program focuses on fostering innovation at the intersection of Web3 and the music industry. Over 120 applications were received for projects in this domain, with final selections based on criteria such as cultivating artist fan communities, decentralized music production and distribution systems, ticketing solutions, collectibles and merchandise, and music and interactive technologies and games.
Jilian Rothman, WMG's vice president of new business and venture capital, emphasized that providing meaningful ways for artists and fans to connect and enabling fans to express their fandom are core missions for WMG in this space. Among the winners is MITH, a fan engagement platform that empowers artists with AI-driven insights and analytics while offering first-party data about their audience, providing each fan with a "360° view." Another recipient is Muus Collective, working on "fashion-focused experiences," including mobile games, entertainment, and digital collectibles.
Brian Trunzo, head of business development for North America at Polygon Labs, expressed excitement about decentralized innovation becoming mainstream through projects like these. The Web3 Music Accelerator Program offers WMG and Polygon Labs recognition, strategic guidance, network and connection building, and marketing and promotion. The initiative is backed by blockchain infrastructure developers like CertiK, Coinflow, and Tatum. WMG has been actively leveraging Web3 tools to explore new possibilities for the music industry. In December 2022, it launched the Web3 music platform in collaboration with Polygon and LGND.
During the same period, Polygon partnered with financial services provider Mastercard to introduce a similar Web3 accelerator program for musicians seeking entry into the field. These initiatives underscore the growing intersection of Web3 technologies and the music industry, bringing forth novel approaches to fan engagement, artist empowerment, and the creation of immersive digital experiences.
