Former US President Donald Trump hosted a gathering of non-fungible token (NFT) enthusiasts at his Florida residence on Wednesday, May 8, where he delivered several notable quotes that stirred discussions among cryptocurrency circles. Trump not only pledged to support cryptocurrency entrepreneurs and keep them in the United States but also asserted that his extensive NFT collection was revitalizing the NFT market.
In response to questions about regulatory hostility towards cryptocurrencies, particularly from US President Joe Biden's administration and the Securities and Exchange Commission under Gary Gensler, Trump expressed his intention to address these concerns. He emphasized the importance of fostering a conducive regulatory environment for crypto businesses and innovators to thrive within the country.
Trump highlighted the significance of NFTs in revitalizing the market, particularly citing his own Mugshot NFTs collection as a driving force behind the renewed interest in NFTs. His remarks garnered applause from attendees, indicating the impact of his involvement in the NFT space.
Attendees of the event were required to purchase a minimum of $4,653 worth of Mugshots NFTs to gain entry, showcasing the exclusivity of the gathering. Trump also expressed skepticism towards certain meme coins, particularly the Biden-related Jeo Boden (BODEN) coin, criticizing its high valuation.
Despite his enthusiasm for cryptocurrency innovation, Trump remains adamant about maintaining the dominance of the US dollar and traditional banking systems. He reiterated his opposition to the creation of a central bank digital currency and mocked his political opponent's lack of understanding regarding cryptocurrency during the event.
