Do you know what is ENS on MetaMask, if you do not know this article is for you. In this article, we will explain what is ENS on MetaMask and what can you do with it.

What is ENS on MetaMask?

The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) uses the exact same concept as the Domain Name Service (DNS) but adapts it to the needs of Ethereum users. At the heart of the Ethereum Name Service is a distributed, open and extensible naming system that runs on the Ethereum blockchain.

It is designed to map human-readable names to machine-readable identifiers. In this case, the human-readable name could be something like "cactus.eth", and the machine-readable identifier could be an Ethereum address (or other cryptocurrency address ).

According to ENS documentation, the protocol bills itself as a "distributed, open and extensible naming system" that provides a decentralized, blockchain-secure domain naming and lookup service. Due to its decentralized nature, ENS is not controlled by a single entity. This makes ENS more secure than a centralized naming service because there is no single point of failure.

Does MetaMask accept ENS?

ENS is an ERC20 native token, so you can deposit ENS into your Metamask wallet via the ERC20 network.

What can you do with ENS on MetaMask?

Well, you don't have to remember that crazy long cryptographic hash address, just pay a modest fee to keep a human-readable .eth username. (Or, if you're looking for a dedicated three-letter address, you can spend some money.) The next time you need someone to send you tokens, they can just type your .eth name into MetaMask and your address will be Will appear.

The Difference Between DNS and ENS

The Domain Name Service (DNS) was created in 1983 by American computer scientist Paul Mockapetris. It follows the research of another American scientist, Elizabeth Feinler.

Simply put, the purpose of DNS is to match Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to human-friendly domain names. This allows users to enter a website name instead of having to enter an alphanumeric IP address.

In a similar but different way, the Ethereum Name Service attempts to provide an easier way for people (and applications) to read and share cryptocurrency addresses

So I hope now you will know what is ENS on MetaMask and what can you do with ENS on MetaMask. Remember, just like a traditional Internet domain name, your .eth domain must be updated regularly or it may be kept by someone else.

Despite all the technological innovation taking place in the cryptocurrency industry, the majority of cryptocurrencies still operate on a setup akin to the old IP address setup. Instead of using something more amiable like the wallet owner's name, you must use that person's wallet address w to send bitcoin to their address. This is when ENS comes. I will explain how to use ENS in this article.
